We are all here because of what happened in the past so most blacks are in the Americas because of slavery just as the Irish potato famine sent millions of Irish here. The idea that anyone owns the land comes from a belief that god or whatever created the earth for humans so we can abuse it however we wish. The past is also complex because each individual person has a different experience. Tom Jefferson had children with a black woman who was his wife's half sister and just fourteen when they started. The people like Dolly Chugh tend to be well off and in jobs that are easy and they tend to feel guilty so look for ways to assuage their guilt. Oh we were so bad but we can make up for it by giving Bill Cosby and Oprah Winfrey some money to right the wrongs. We could treat each person as an individual and try to fix the wrongs that exist now but that would mean taking individual responsibility as opposed to having government spending other people's tax dollars to right a wrong they had no part in. Supposedly we live on un-ceded native land but we are encouraging new settler colonizers to come in droves, the hypocrisy is amazing

Twice a month or more I volunteer in Phoenix at the Heard Museum of Native American Art. Tourists often seem shocked by what they see in the exhibit on American Indian schools. Shocked that churches & our government were complicit in kidnapping children -physically, sexually abusing thousands & definitely emotionally abusing all of them and rarely returning them to their families. Powerful comprehensive exhibit.

The stain of slavery & genocide of Native Americans will never be removed from the American psyche by ignoring it- it must be exposed explained and taught.

Visit Heard Museum for education and Art! And -stop in the shop to say hello!!!

Good interview. Would be improved if it discussed negatives from all groupings. The Americas had wiped out much of the local large fauna excluding the buffalo long before Europeans arrived. Human sacrifice was pretty brutal and even evidence of cannibalism. Not excusing or blaming. But thorough airing of the past would include issues such as these.
